According to Soundi.fi, THE 69 CATS, the new collaboration between Jyrki69 (The 69 Eyes) on vocals, Danny B. Harvey (Rockats, Headcat) on guitar and Chopper Franklin (The Cramps) on bass, will release its debut EP, "Bad Things", on November 25 via Cleopatra Records. This has been an idea for long time for Jyrki69, the singer of The 69 Eyes, Helsinki-based Finnish goth'n'roll band. His band has been playing their unique glam-goth-mixed sound for a quarter of decade. Occasionally at their acoustic shows the singer's been able to show his rockabilly roots and Elvis-like voice. Fans have been overwhelmed and literally begged for more. Finally this year he was introduced to Danny B. Harvey, legendary American rockabilly guitar hero whose past includes bands like ROCKATS and recently Lemmy-fronted (MÖTORHEAD) HEADCAT as well as playing with everybody from Wanda Jackson to Nancy Sinatra. They worked out immediately a bunch of "cover songs that needed resurrection" - including TYPE O NEGATIVE's "Black No. 1" - and recruited THE CRAMPS bass player Chopper Franklin to this new dark rockabilly "supergroup." "No matter where I was DJing around the world, whether it was a goth or metal night, I always spinned some '50s rock'n'roll, THE CRAMPS or THE STRAY CATS in the last part of the night - and drove everybody crazy and filled the dance floor," said Jyrki69. "But it's always the same records, there's no new happening band." The sound, the songs, the chemistry - it's all here. Not only new stuff for the dance floor to get the cool cats and kinky kittens go wild again but also bring it to the fans of all these bands. Expect an album, expect shows. The final track `Dracula's Castle´ is at least equally interesting, as it can be considered pure rockabilly - or rather gothabilly! Jyrki shares its background: "The Fuzztones is one of my all-time favourite bands and I've got to know their leader Rudi Protrudi a bit. We wrote this track with him in Berlin one night before our show and he actually even sings backing vocals on it. Words can't describe the feeling of making music with your own idol - I still can't believe it! The song is like a Scooby Doo-on-acid-by-Helloween kind of gothabilly track. Should be a radio hit too by any standards!" In other news, Jyrki69 has teamed up with famous "L.A. fingers" icon photographer Estevan Oriol (http://www.estevanoriol.com/) last week for the humanitarian mission of UNICEF Nicaragua. Together they spent a week in Nicaragua to see how UNICEF is taking action against trafficking of women and children in the country. United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Goodwill Ambassador Jyrki Linnankivi will be visiting Nicaragua on January 14-18, 2013. Known as Jyrki 69, Mr. Linnankivi is the vocalist of Finnish rock band The 69 Eyes. Jyrki Linnankivi will be accompanied by members of the Finnish Committee for UNICEF with the aim of learning about UNICEF's work supporting the Government of Nicaragua in preventing commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking. This will take him to the cities of Managua, Granada, Bluefields and Pearl Lagoon. This will be the first time that Nicaragua has been visited by a Goodwill Ambassador. According to the UNICEF Representative in Nicaragua, Philippe Barragne-Bigot, "Goodwill Ambassadors give a voice to those who don't have one. The objective of Jyrki's visit is for him to return and transmit a message to the people of Finland and the Nordic countries of Europe on the advances in compliance with child and adolescent rights, the challenges still pending, and the possibility of collaborating to reduce the existing gaps." As part of the visit, the Goodwill Ambassador will hold a meeting with adolescents and young people who have been victims of trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. It is also planned to hold informative sessions with the National Coalition for the Fight against Human Trafficking, local and regional authorities, and nongovernmental organizations. In 2013, UNICEF Nicaragua is initiating a new Cooperation Programme that will last until 2017, including actions linked to the prevention of violence and the protection of children and adolescents. Employing an equity-based approach, UNICEF has identified 24 municipalities with higher rates of poverty and inequality located in the country's northern regions and North and South Atlantic Autonomous Regions. Only few days after Jyrki will be back from Nicaragua, The 69 Eyes will start their European tour on which closest to Croatia they are coming: Feb 03 - Bratislava, Feb 04 - Vienna and Feb 09 - Venice. The 69 Eyes has a loyal following and has produced ten albums-the latest, titled "X", released in September 2012. Their albums have gone gold and platinum and the band has been on an extensive world tour. In 2010, the band received an Emma award from the Finnish Music Industry for its contribution to the exportation of Finnish music. Its international sales total over a million discs. Jyrki Linnankivi has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Finland since 2005, focusing on the fight against the trafficking of children and against HIV/AIDS. Prior to coming to Nicaragua, he has made two visits to Kenya. Helsinki vampires The 69 Eyes recently shot a video for the hit single "Borderline" together with famous producer Patric Ullaeus over in New Orleans. The song comes off the band's most recent album, "X". The clip will be due next week - keep your eyes open! "It's like our "Love Me Tender" - a soft, timeless ballad. But it also has that dark, mystic Southern vibe (some said "True Blood"), so naturally we had to go to Louisiana to shoot the video! Mark Twain's books, Elvis' "King Creole", "Easy Rider", blues, jazz, voodoo, vampires - so many reasons for The 69 Eyes go to N'awlins. We've played there twice, I've hosted two DJ club nights there called "Fangtasia" over the last two summers. The leading rock/metal video director of these latter days, Swedish Patric Ullaeus was also interested in coming to NOLA to make this masterpiece, so all was set for it! Regarding the album title, singer Jyrki69 said, "We've never really celebrated anything, not that we've been playing 20 years or so (vampires don't count decades). Thus this time we thought to celebrate a bit: the new album is entitled as tenth in Roman numbers, it'll be called 'X'." On the topic of the "X" cover artwork, Jyrki69 said, "The cover is pure goth 'n' roll: a psychedelic mirror image of old wild animal bones with our X-tagram projected over all. It's good, evil, magic and voodoo all together! Something to stare at when tripping on the album." Those Helsinki Vampires also known as The 69 Eyes are currently working on their 10th studio album in Stockholm, Sweden. The last The 69 Eyes album, "Back In Blood", came out in 2009 on Nuclear Blast in Europe and was produced by American Grammy-awarded metal producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet, Children Of Bodom).
